Specialized non-fiction can be as absorbing as fiction, but those of us who like both tend to acquire such huge libraries that we need to weed out from time to time. I once knew a lesbian couple who specialized ("A" loved fiction, and collected almost every lesbian romance published by Naiad Press, while "B" was a history major with shelves full of historical studies & bios). Their breakup must have deprived each of them of easy access to reading-matter outside their own niche.
